A few years ago I began my trek toward a Ph.D. in Christian Intellectual Thought at Whitefield Theological Seminary.

I've struggled to make the time necessary to complete the work, but I'm determined to do so.


SYS 901 History of the Reformation

Read Merle D'Aubigne's "History of the Reformation" and write chapter summaries
Chapter summaries are one to two page summaries of the content of each chapter. D'Aubigne's work contains over 200 chapters!

  • Book I: The State of Europe Before the Reformation (9 chapters)
  • Book II: The Youth, Conversion, and Early Labors of Luther–1483-1517 (11 chapters)
  • Book III: The Indulgences and the Theses–1517 - May 1518 (11 chapters)
  • Book IV: Luther Before The Legate – May to December 1518 (11 chapters)
  • Book V: The Leipsic Disputation – 1519 (8 chapters)
  • Book VI: The Papal Bull – 1520 (12 chapters)
  • Book VII: The Diet of Worms – 1521, January to May (11 chapters)
  • Book VIII: The Swiss – 1484-1522 (14 chapters)
  • Book IX: First Reforms – 1521 and 1522 (12 chapters)
  • Book X: Agitation, Reverses, and Progress – 1522 and 1526 (14 chapters)

This has turned into a Th.M. project with the goal of publication. My page count is now over 300 pages.

Read Schaff's "History of the Swiss Reformation" and write a 15 page report
Read McGrath's "The Intellectual Origins of the European Reformation" and write a book report
Write a 20 page paper on a particular event that occurred during the Reformation
